What we’re about
Good-for-the-soul thought-provoking book club taking place on walks, hikes and rambles in and outside of London.
On each walk we will discuss and reflect on one philosophically-interesting text from a secular perspective e.g., key works from Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Stoicism, or classic poetry such as Rumi or Emily Dickinson.
It is recommended that all attendees have an intermediate level of walking fitness (5-20 km hikes) and have read the text.
Inclusive, welcoming, social events that will go ahead rain or shine.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Upcoming events (1)
See all- Thich Nhat Hanh, Thames Path (15 km)Pear Tree Cafe Battersea Park , London
After a short sabbatical, the Rambling Book Club returns this autumn with a dose of Eastern wisdom from the wonderful Thich Nhat Hanh.
Our principal text will be Peace is Every Step, which we encourage you to read ahead of the walk. Supplementary (optional) reads include How to Love and – very fittingly – How to Walk.
As always, we welcome those with a dual love of walking and literature/philosophy. The space we aim to create is one of open, non-judgemental, creative and tangential discourse.
While these texts are written from a Buddhist perspective, we’ll be exploring them through a predominantly secular lens.
Route: We’ll meet at 12:30 then set off from the Pear Tree Café, Battersea Park, at 12:45, and walk east along the Thames to finish at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich.
Distance: Around 15–16 km
What to bring: Water, snacks, and good footwear
Our walks and discussions are always free. If you’d like to support the running of the club (and help us cover the rising Meetup organiser fees), any contributions via our RBC Buy Me A Coffee Page are warmly appreciated.
Looking forward to walking with you again.
Until then, take care.
Ollie
