What we’re about

Welcome! We are a bunch of freethinkers who meet every other Friday on the Eastside for discussion, friendly debate and fun.

Unlike other groups with a similar name, we do not exclude people who share different points of views. All opinions are respected. Many of our discussions explore the question of how things like logical fallacies, cognitive biases and social conformity pressures give rise to societal issues like ideological polarization, tribalism and the formation of distinct (and increasingly inflexible) ideological camps that spend most of their time at each other's throats.

We also explore "lighter" topics like free will vs. determinism, the nature of knowledge and cognition, AI, evolutionary psychology, religious models of reality, the basis of morality, past attempts at creating "optimal societies" and whatever else might come up in our discussions.

Liberal versus conservative? No problem. Even theists and creationists are welcome as long as they do not mind being challenged.

Our only requirement is that members be genuinely capable of setting aside their strongly held beliefs long enough to rationally consider things from other perspectives without summarily dismissing those who disagree as being incorrigibly evil, stupid, delusional, dangerous, extremist, etc and to refrain from the use of logical fallacies and other subtle forms of psychological manipulation to proselytize or advocate their cherished causes.
