The next book we're reading is centered around a mundane idea and relationship but since it's famous we'll read it.

We're reading Lolita.

(That's two ironic introductions to the events in a row so I will be sincere in the next one...to keep it interesting ;)

We'll have a discussion around the these questions:

  1. How does Nabokov use Humbert's literary sophistication and unreliable narration to manipulate reader sympathy?
  2. What role does America itself play in the novel?
  3. How do we see Dolores Haze as a real person despite Humbert's attempts to transform her into "Lolita"?

If discussing this book in a group setting creates a mixture of uncertainty and excitement - good - you're just like us and the other millions of people who have read it.

Bring an open mind and your opinion - even if it isn't strong one.

I'm looking forward to seeing you there!

Tony
