The Samhae Soju Workshop is opening the 2026 Won (元) Samhae Academy. Offered only once a year, this academy follows a millennia-old recipe and process.

Learn how to make cheongju (yakju) and soju -- hands on, step by step from fermenting the starter to distilling the cheongju to make your own batch of traditional soju.

All ingredients, equipment and storage is included in the academy fee. Daily maintenance and progress checks will be recorded on video and uploaded.

Schedule

  1. Starter Batch - Sunday, February 8, 2026 @ 1:00 p.m.
  2. 1st Fermentation - Wednesday, February 18, 2026 @ 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  3. 2nd Fermentation - Thursday, March 26, 2026 @ 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  4. 3rd Fermentation** - Friday, May 1, 2026 @ 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  5. Distillation - During the month of November, academy members will be able to schedule distillation based on personal availability. You can expect to take home 18 bottles of Samhae Soju (20 bottles total if you have perfect attendance) 45% abv [375 mL].

* Please note: Due to high demand and in order to accomodate varying schedules during the week, the time slots range from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Expect each batch of fermentation to take about 3 hours from start to finish.

** Each academy member will take 6 liters of Yakju (18% abv) on this day.
