For purposes of reference, the description of the group as it was, is below.

Please read this before joining the group.

We're a hobbyist read & critique group based in Santa Barbara, California, that welcomes all types of writing and all levels of writers, including professionals willing to slum it with us. We strive to be a warm, supportive group who will help all its members bring their works into the best shape that work can achieve. Each meeting runs for two and a half hours, during which a signed up list of readers read from their works in progress and receive critique from the rest of the group. Critiques will point out both positives and negatives. Total time for any member may be up to 20 minutes for both read and critique.

To make sure the group functions optimally and remains a warm and supportive group we have certain security requirements above and beyond the code of conduct for new members until you are a well known and established. We require seeing video of your face. Please have your setup working before attending so both Audio and Video are immediately available. You will be bumped from the zoom if we can't see you. Please also have the name on your video match the name you sign up with or let us know ahead of time in the event page messages if there will be a difference. You will be bumped if it cannot be verified that you signed up through Meetup. You must RSVP to attend. The moderator is not required to allow entry to names not seen on the Meeting RSVP. We do not allow anyone to sign up someone else on their behalf, you must sign yourself up. We do not allow anyone under 18 years of age, we know this is unfair to younger writers but it is a requirement of the services we use because there can be adult themes addressed in our meetings. If, for any reason, you temporarily cannot fulfill any of the above requirements, we ask you not to attend until you are able to fulfill all of them. At moderator discretion, anyone who fails to follow these requirements may be banned permanently and without warning for the protection of the group.

If you have any questions about attending or any other policy matter you can message the moderator directly on Meetup who will get back to you according to their availability. The Moderator may appoint temporary moderators at need but they cannot give official answers. Please only contact the current Moderator. Our current Moderator is Eben Mishkin.

While we are separate groups with different rules, we are absolutely made in the image of Santa Barbara Writing Group (https://www.meetup.com/Santa-Barbara-Writing-Group (https://www.meetup.com/Santa-Barbara-Writing-Group/) and have many members in common, so we highly recommend them for more meetings of the same kind. The primary differences between us are our code of conduct and the standard amount of time given to readers. They allow more people to read in a meeting at the cost of a shorter read time. They also meet twice as often as we do.
