The Scriptwriters Network (“SWN”), founded in 1986, is an educational, tax-exempt 501(c) (3) non-profit, volunteer-driven organization created by writers for writers and industry professionals.
SWN serves its members by providing educational programming, enhancing awareness of the realities of the business, developing access and opportunity through alliances with industry professionals and furthering the cause and quality of writing for the entertainment industry.
We bring in entertainment professionals to speak on the art, craft and business of script writing for TV, features and new media.
Whether you are a screenwriter, a television scriptwriter or involved in screenwriting for non-traditional media, we help take your writing to the next level.

The Television Outreach Program (TOP) is a Scriptwriters Network program to support undiscovered television writing talent. The program’s objective is to help writers improve their craft so that they may achieve their goals of obtaining representation, script development, mentoring and career counseling services, landing writing assignments, and/or selling their work.

DESCRIPTION:
The High Concept Screenplay Program welcomes all genres and aims to discover, honor and reward different approaches, eclectic points of view and unique voices in screenwriting. A high concept screenplay:
- has a great premise – the idea is king (e.g. “Big”)
- has a memorable title – it conveys what the movie is about (e.g. “Wedding Crashers”)
- has a visual logline – you can see the movie (e.g. “40 Year Old Virgin”)
- has universal appeal – all demographics “get it” (e.g. “Star Trek”)
- has clear conflicts, high stakes, a hook, a ticking clock and/ or a twist (e.g. “Liar Liar”)
- has a succinct, descriptive “pitch” of 25 words or less (e.g. “Seven, Home Alone”)
