What we’re about
Are you fascinated by the hidden world of plants and their secret lives? Join us to explore plants in all their dimensions—their properties, aromas, anatomy, reproductive organs, pollination strategies, and the fascinating fungi and wildlife they have evolved with over thousands and millions of years.
From communicating with each other through chemical signals underground to the waggle dance of the honey bee, we will observe astonishing adaptations for survival and adaptation.
Whether you're a seasoned plant enthusiast or just curious about the wonders of the green kingdom, this meetup is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and deepen your appreciation for the amazing world of plants. Join us and uncover the mysteries of the botanical realm!
These explorations invite both adults and children to engage with the park intellectually, artistically, sensorially, and ethnobotanically. We’ll uncover how human life is intimately connected to plants, fungi, forests, fields, and streams in subtle and surprising ways.
By the end of each walk, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Central Park’s natural history, an awakened connection to the land beneath your feet, and a renewed appreciation for the natural world.
After the walk, you will receive an email report with notes about all of the plants and wildlife we observed over the course of the walk to help remember, return to our discoveries, and share with others.
This walk is led by expert guide David Jakim, MS in Environmental Geology and MA in Science Education, with over 15 years of experience leading nature walks and work as a field biologist.
