The Snail Mail Revolution

Ah, the lovely postcard! October 1st is World Postcard Day, and in honor of this tiny but mighty form of communication, we are making and swapping homemade postcards! This year's theme is "Wish you were here."

How do you make a homemade postcard? Make it out of anything that is sturdy enough to make it through the mail - cardboard, a cereal box, an index card, etc. (Make sure you put enough postage on it if it is odd or large shaped.) You can also use an already existing postcard that is u-g-l-y and you deem unworthy to send as is to create your own homemade postcard. Now decorate to your heart's content! Color, draw, paint, collage, write, type, washi, sticker the heck outta that baby! Be creative, have fun, and in return you will be rewarded with mail!

So how does this swap work? You RSVP, send me your address, and then on the date of this meetup I will send you the name and address of the person you will be sending your DIY masterpiece postcard to! That's it! You will then send your custom one-of-a-kind postcard out by October 15, 2025.

Occasionally I purchase mystery bags or grab bags full of stationery (or stationery-adjacent items - like magnets or pins). I also participate in Fukubukuro each year, and this year I participated to my hearts content (i.e. a lot!). It's always a toss up when I do this, sometimes I end up with items and think, "I love this!," and sometimes I end up with items and think, "Someone else would love this!". :)

So, every month for the rest of the year, we're gonna do a giveaway where you get the chance to be that someone else. What will you receive? It's a surprise, my friend, but it will be new, unused stationery (or stationery-adjacent). And I'll post a hint in each monthly description. This month's hint: postcards!
