What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in fighting the rise of authoritarianism in America, standing up for our collective and individual liberties, and advocating for our representative system of government that has come under assault these past two years. Indeed, we awoke on November 9th, 2016 to a world that was much more dangerous and uncertain than on the day before, and many of us were left wondering what we could do in response. How could we channel our anger, our fear, our despair, and our hopelessness into productive action?
I wondered that as well. What could I do to fight back? Well, to that end, I founded the Society for Constitutional Protection in New York. https://www.meetup.com/The-Society-for-Constitutional-Protection/. It was my hope that the group would help empower our community during these troubling times, particularly through civics education. Indeed, I believed that understanding our rights under the Constitution, the principles underlying our democracy and system of government, and the important events throughout American history was essential to both identifying the threats to our country and knowing how to best respond to them. I think the last two years has vindicated that belief.
I recently moved to Philadelphia, and I am happy to announce that I'm starting a Philadelphia chapter of The Society for Constitutional Protection. As in New York, the events will be largely geared towards civics education. In New York I delivered presentations on a variety of topics including the First and Fourth Amendments, Due Process, Gerrymandering, Federalism, The Federalist Papers, The Merits of Democracy, and Impeachment, among others. I plan on holding similar events in Philadelphia.
If you have any suggestions about the different kinds of events we should hold or about the group in general, feel free to contact me over email at daniemiller@gmail.com. It is important to note, this is non-partisan group. Anyone is welcome regardless of party affiliation.
I hope to meet many of you in the coming weeks, months, and years. Stay tuned for our first event!
Best,
Daniel Miller
