For our July meeting, we shall be discussing Six Wakes, by Mur Lafferty.
Six Wakes does for the conceptual space of cloning what Asimov did for the law and morality of robotics.
Imagine a future in which peoples' consciousness can be reawakened in a fully adult clone after a sudden death. Imagine all of the abuses this technology could lead to. Cue a plot where the crew of a spaceship awaken in fresh clone bodies, shaking off the confusion of realizing that they are missing memories because their most recent memory updates were somehow not uploaded—and the ship is littered with their own corpses. Welcome to Six Wakes.
