Stephen King Book Club: Desperation (first half)
Details
In a small town in the middle of nowhere, the chief law enforcement officer stops vehicles along the desolate interstate and abducts their passengers. Evil has infected the town and only one of the insane police officer's victims seems to know what to do.
This novel was published the same year (1986) as its "mirror" novel The Regulators which was a Richard Bachman book. We'll figure out how these stories fit together and what King was trying to do by publishing two connected novels under different names.
For this meeting we'll discuss only Parts I and II. If you're listening to the audiobook, you'd stop listening right after you hear these words:
"Jews must die, " it told the empty room. "Catholics must die. Mormons must die. Grateful Dead fans must die." It paused. "Little prayboys must also die."
It raised Ellen Carver's hands and began tapping Ellen Carver's fingers meditatively against Ellen Carver's collarbones.
To cover the $200/yr Meetup fee, there is a $3 fee to attend (you'll be guided to a PayPal screen). If I cancel this meeting, you will be refunded. (I pay the monthly cost of the Zoom account.)
