This circular trail is a local favorite for a reason. It whisks you away from the bustling Roman streets of Bath and up into the rolling hills, hidden woodlands, and ancient sites that overlook the city. It is the perfect blend of history and nature, making it a fantastic day out for everyone.

  • Length: 12.1 km (Circular)
  • Elevation Gain: 344 m
  • Estimated Time: 3.5 โ€“ 4 hours (plus our 30-minute lunch break!)
  • Start/End Point: Bath Spa Train Station Bath

๐Ÿ“ Highlights & Stop-offs

  • Bathampton Wood: A peaceful stretch of ancient trees that feels miles away from the city.
  • The Sham Castle: Keep an eye out for this "fake" castle front built in 1762โ€”it's a great spot for a group photo!
  • Claverton Down: We will find a scenic spot here to stop for our 30-minute packed lunch. Expect sweeping views of the Georgian architecture below.
  • Prior Park Views: As we loop back, we'll get a stunning perspective of the famous Palladian Bridge and the city's skyline.

๐Ÿพ Important Information

  • Lunch: Please bring your own packed lunch and plenty of water. We will be stopping midway to refuel and enjoy the scenery.
  • Dogs: This is a dog-friendly route, so feel free to bring your four-legged friends along! Please keep them on leads where livestock may be present.
  • Clothing: The terrain can be muddy and uneven in the woods. I highly suggest wearing sturdy walking boots and bringing a waterproof jacket, as the weather on the hills can change quickly.
