Tired of social media echo chambers? Join the Sylvans, a friendly London debating group where we trade slogans for wisdom. We meet twice a month in the heart of Fleet Street to tackle today’s biggest issues - from the future of the NHS to the impact of digital IDs - all in a respectful, welcoming atmosphere.
Whether you're a seasoned orator or just want to listen and learn, you’re welcome here. No experience is required, and attendees are very welcome to simply observe. Come for the debate, stay for the diverse perspectives and leave with a deeper understanding of key issues.

Sylvan short debates: topics to be selected by the audience on the night!
Ye Olde Cock Tavern,, 22 Fleet Street,, London EC4Y 1AA, GBThe Sylvans rapid debate session will cover two shorter topics. We will take a vote at the beginning of the evening on which two to debate from the following options:
1. the UK's obsession with home ownership leads to poor decisions
2. the world would be a safer place without religion
3. the focus on elite women has slowed progress for most women
4. this house welcomes attempts for regime change in Iran
5. all utility companies should be re-nationalisedWe will also offer impromptu debates at the end of the meeting with a humorous approach to this challenging public speaking technique!
All are welcome to attend without pre-registration – we have new joiners all the time, and no experience is required. Attendees are welcome to participate or simply observe. The event will be held at Ye Olde Cock Tavern, 22 Fleet Street, simply turn up at 6:45 for a 7pm start.
If the Meetup participant limit has been reached, you can simply turn up on the night without registration.
