Why this session, and why now
Software is becoming less predictable, and harder to test.
AI coding agents are writing more code than ever, and much of it is never read closely by a human. At the same time, production environments keep getting more complex. Modern applications depend on dozens of internal services, third-party APIs, payment gateways, identity providers and data platforms. Integration-heavy architectures like these make it close to impossible to isolate a single component and test it properly.
For most teams, the result is familiar. Tests wait on shared environments that are slow, unstable or booked by another team. A dependency is down, rate-limited or hasn't been built yet. Simple mocks drift out of date and stop reflecting how the real system behaves. Meanwhile, the speed of AI-generated code means there's more to test, more often, with less time to do it.
This session looks at how to break that bottleneck.

What the session covers
WireMock CTO and co-founder Tom Akehurst and Head of Solution Engineering Dan Perovich will start with the current state of test environments and how AI is changing software quality. They'll talk about what works, what's breaking, and why many existing testing strategies don't hold up once coding agents are part of the workflow.
Most of the session is hands-on. You'll see a step-by-step live demo of how to use modern, AI-enabled tools to build high-fidelity simulations of your production systems. These simulations behave like the real services your application depends on, so you can test rapidly and effectively much earlier in the development lifecycle without waiting on shared environments or unavailable dependencies.

What you will learn

  • The challenge of testing in high-dependency environments. Why systems that rely on many services, APIs and third parties are so hard to test in isolation, and what that costs teams in time and quality.
  • Why coding agents destabilise many testing strategies. How AI-generated code changes the volume, pace and predictability of what needs testing, and which assumptions in today's test approaches no longer hold.
  • The limits of shared environments and simple mocks. Where shared test environments and hand-written stubs fall short, and why they tend to become bottlenecks as systems grow.
  • How to build simulated environments with AI agents and the WireMock MCP server. A practical walkthrough of using AI agents to create realistic simulations of the systems your application depends on.
  • Best practices for consistent simulations that don't drift. How to keep your simulations accurate over time, so they keep matching the real systems they stand in for.

Agenda (45 minutes)

  • 10 minutes: Discussion on the state of test environments and the impact of AI on software quality
  • 20 minutes: Hands-on live demo of building AI-native simulated environments
  • 15 minutes: Open Q&A with the speakers

Bring your questions. The Q&A is your chance to ask about your own architecture, your dependencies and the testing problems your team is facing right now.

Who should attend
This session is aimed at intermediate and advanced practitioners, especially:

  • QA Leads, Test Managers and Heads of Quality
  • SDETs and Test Automation Engineers
  • Backend and API Engineers
  • Engineering Managers and Development Leads
  • Platform, DevOps and SRE Engineers
  • Test Architects and anyone responsible for test environments or test strategy

It's especially relevant if your team works with microservices, third-party integrations, or AI coding agents, or if your testing regularly gets blocked by environments or dependencies that aren't ready.

FAQ
Is it free?
Yes, the session is completely free.
Where does it take place?
Online. Register at https://luma.com/testing_agents/ and you'll receive the joining details.
What if I can't attend live?
Register anyway, and you'll get the recording. Attending live lets you ask questions in the Q&A, though.
Do I need to know WireMock already?
No. The concepts apply whatever tools you use today. Familiarity with API testing or mocking will help you get more out of the demo.
Will I be able to ask questions?
Yes. A full 15 minutes is set aside for open Q&A at the end.

About The Test Tribe
The Test Tribe is a global community of software testers. We run meetups, webinars, conferences and learning programs to help testers and quality engineers learn from each other and from industry leaders. Our city chapters bring the community together locally, and sessions like this one bring practitioners and toolmakers together to discuss the problems teams face every day.
Join us on 14 October, and feel free to share this with your QA and engineering teams.
