Interest-driven information architecture

Details

The ibm.com website has evolved over the decades, and contains tens of millions of pages. How do you create an information architecture for a site that has evolved under hundreds of different schemes with minimal central governance?

And the bigger question - if you had an information architecture, how could you apply it?

I’m working on an information architecture that attempts to address both these challenges, bringing together information architecture, content analytics, semantic technologies, and artificial intelligence to rearchitect an existing website around common customer interests and needs.
This is a pre-case-study - sharing the approach we’re considering, and soliciting feedback on the approach.

Takeaways

  • A possible approach to enterprise-level information architecture based on user interests
  • A way to connect information architecture to analytics
  • An approach to incrementally applying an information architecture to large scale websites
