Christopher Hill was an English Marxist Historian and academic, specialising in 17th century English History. From 1965 to 1978 he was Master of Baliol College, Oxford.
Hill was an inspiration to many 20th historians, especially on the Left. EP Thompson called him the dean and paragon of English historians.
We will read Chapter 14 ("Mechanical Preachers and Mechanical Philosophy") and Chapter 15 ("Base Impudent Kisses") of his book The World Turned Upside Down: Radical Ideas During the English Revolution – you can find it here.

This group examines the history of Ideas and Science. Great effort is made to include lesser known thinkers whose thought has historical significance. We will also examine non-European Philosophy and Science to provide context and comparison.
The organizer is not an expert but has a long experience in organizing similar meetings. He also has an Oxford PhD in European History as well as a Cambridge MPhil on the same discipline. He currently teaches foreign languages.
