The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (Film Discussion)
Details
“The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie” was Bunuel’s most successful film; it made more money even than his Belle de Jour, won the Oscar as best foreign film and was named the year’s best by the National Society of Film Critics. The movie is broken into self-contained sequences, showing the bland surface of polite society and the lusts that lurk beneath. Bourgeoisie manners, Bunuel believes, are the flimsiest facade for our animal natures. (Ebert)
Discreet Charm is a deadpan farce forever flirting with anarchy. (Dennis Harvey)
Bunuel fearlessly tears into class hypocrisy. (Matt Brunson)

We all seek meaning in our lives and dread futility. Philosophy doesn't provide facile answers, but the philosophical quest to make sense of our fleeting lives is one that we all share.
This group explores answers by discussing not only philosophical writing, but also literature and film.
