What we’re about
This Meetup group is a doorway into The Unwriting Café, the only writing circle where nobody writes and everything gets written.
You’ll find all upcoming gatherings in this group, from the free Casual Café to the deeper Craft and Client Café workshops.
Below is a clear overview of how everything works now.
What is The Unwriting Café?
A set of online spaces for unwriting, where writing unfolds without the writer trying to control it. There are three cafés, each with its own depth and focus.
What are the three cafés?
- Casual Café
Freeform unwriting, open for everyone.
Meets every Tuesday at 17.30 to 18.30 CEST.
Light and simple, focused on unwriting as it appears without direction. - Craft Café
Two unwriting workshops each month.
Meets on the 2nd and 4th Friday at 17.00 to 18.30 CEST.
More structured, with input that helps you uncover the skills behind unwriting.
Includes a free trial to see if it fits. - Client Café
One unmarketing workshop each month.
Meets on the 3rd Friday at 17.00 to 18.30 CEST.
Focuses on promotion and letting your work speak through you.

What happens in the Casual Café sessions?
- A one hour freeform unwriting gathering.
- It’s the lightest edition of The Unwriting Café.
- No input. No instruction.
- A short popcorn round to see what people are working on, then we unwrite together.
- No steering, no correcting, no reading aloud.
What happens in the Craft Café workshops?
- A deeper, more focused unwriting workshop.
- Runs for 1.5 hours.
- Designed to develop the underlying skills of unwriting.
- Includes context, guidance, and space to explore techniques you won’t get in the Casual Café.
- There’s a free trial so you can experience a full workshop once.
Structure:
- Opening 15 minutes – context and shared intentions
- Working 60 minutes – unwriting with focused input
- Closing 15 minutes – reflections on what moved
Who joins these gatherings?
Writers of any kind: books, essays, social content, articles. Fiction and non-fiction.
Your project doesn’t matter. The approach of stepping aside does.
Why unwriting?
Because the moment we try to be good writers, we interrupt ourselves. Here, the writer steps aside, and the writing appears more naturally, with less effort.
Who facilitates the sessions?
All cafés are facilitated by Youri Hermes, author of four book, including The Art of Unwriting.
Why are RSVPs low on Meetup?
Most people join through other channels. Sessions usually have 5 to 10 people.
