Hi there ✨

Whoever you are, you're warmly invited to join us for a full-day creative writing workshop ✍️ with food & drink 🍴☕🍷, a pub quiz 🧠, and plenty of space to be wonderfully, productively silly 🃏

Together, we'll be exploring The Fool, one of the oldest, strangest, and most surprisingly wise figures in all of storytelling.

The Fool is the one who wanders in with no plan and no armour. The jester who speaks the unspeakable. The simpleton who turns out to see more clearly than anyone. From Shakespeare's court jesters to Dostoevsky's holy innocents, from Forrest Gump to "the Dude" in the Big Lebowski, all the way to the zero card in the Tarot deck, the Fool keeps showing up, and keeps telling the truth.

This day isn't just about reading or analysing those figures (though we'll do a little of that). We'll have our own go at writing a new character, using the Fool as a lens to ask our own questions, find our own voices, and maybe surprise ourselves along the way.

By the end of the day, you'll leave with a some fresh ideas, characters and scenes, to take home and develop in your own time.

What do we mean by The Fool? 🤔

We're interested in writing that asks questions like:

• What does it feel like to be the outsider who sees everything clearly?
• When is not-knowing more powerful than knowing?
• Who gets to speak truth — and how do they get away with it?
• And what can we unlock in our own writing when we give ourselves permission to play, wander, and not have all the answers?

We'll read short extracts from poets, playwrights, novelists, and thinkers who've worked with these ideas, then use them as springboards for our own guided writing exercises.

No dogma. No right answers. Just curiosity, play, and honest language. 🃏

• Arrive at Finch's Pub for teas/coffees ☕ and a gentle warm-up writing session ✍️
• Settle into reading, conversation, supported exploration, and lots more writing 💬
• Break for lunch 🥗 at the pub
• Dive back in for an afternoon of deeper writing and creative experiments 🌀
• Wind down with our end-of-day pub quiz!
