30-Day Writing Challenge 2026
Hosted by A Write & a Pint

Do you miss NaNoWriMo?

We do too!

💭 This is our second year hosting A Write & a Pint’s 30-Day Writing Challenge, an exciting alternative to NaNoWriMo but in the same tradition!

Last year, we had just over 30 people join us to make progress on their writing. This year, well, we're ready for however many want to be part of the challenge!

If you’d like to join us throughout November 🍂, you’ll build momentum on your writing project in community with others 🤝. We’ll have live weekly online workshops 💻, workshop recordings 🎥, online accountability 📲, and social events 🎉 with other writers to help hone your skills and focus on your writing.

### Who is this for? 🤔

If you’re a writer or would-be writer working on a book of prose, poetry, or just any writing project, this is for you!

It might be fiction ✨, memoir 📝, biography 👤, autofiction 🔄, autoethnography 🌍, a collection of short stories or poems 📚, or anything in between.

You just need something to work on that you want to make tangible progress on over 30 days 📆, with support and in community 🌟.

### What is the challenge? 🎯

The challenge – if you choose to accept it – is just like NaNoWriMo, and to write a full, 50,000+ word manuscript 🖊️ in 30 days (wild, we know! 😅).

And for anybody who makes it to at least 10,000 words, we invite you to submit your favourite 500-word excerpt ✨ to our competition.

The author of our favourite piece will win a Penguin Mini Classics Box Set 🎁 🐧 (RRP £100). Note: organisers Sean and Shimrit + 2 × guest judges will be reading each piece and whittling them down to a short list before choosing a winner.

That said, if you just want to join to be able to make meaningful progress on your writing in community, without needing to track wordcount, you are still very much welcome to join us! This is for anyone who wants to spend November committed to their writing, alongside others doing the same, and with support.

### How it works ⚙️

Through November, you’ll join 8 live, online sessions (1.5 hours each, twice a week) 🗓️.

In the first half hour, we’ll work through practical exercises to hone your writing skills. We’ll then have an hour of shared, quiet writing time, where you can actively focus on your work.

The sessions will cover topics such as arc, plot, style, tone, character, dialogue, pace, and perspective 🎭, and give you practical techniques and inspiration you can put to work straight away.

Depending on the tier you sign up for, you might also participate in:

  • An all-day kick-off workshop at a London location 🍵 🥐 (with brunch + tea/coffee included)
  • An online midway-point check-in 💬
  • A final “Read & Pint” social at a London location 🍷 📖 (with a drink included)
  • A 1.5-hour, one-to-one coaching session 🎓 to dive deeper into your writing
  • Editorial feedback on up to 1,500 words ✍️ 📝

You’ll also have the option of joining a dedicated WhatsApp group of fellow writers who are participating in the challenge 📲, for daily inspiration and accountability. Once you’re part of the WhatsApp community, there may also be people who want to commit to additional shared quiet writing time, or to self-organise writing meet-ups with others. The adventure is yours to craft! 🌟

Testimonials from the 30-Day Writing Challenge 2025

"I loved participating in this 30 day writing challenge. I discovered so many unexpected and lovely things about how I like to write and what I would like to explore. I loved the learning aspect of the sessions as well as time to experiment and write together. All in all a wonderful experience, thank you!”
"I’ve really enjoyed the 30 days challenge. It’s been incredibly nice to meet different people and listen to their brilliant ideas, including what they might be working on. I especially liked the varying workshops, which were delivered twice weekly – nothing like an extra arrow in one’s quiver. One of the main benefits for me, I felt, was that it almost forced me to make time to write so I’d have something to share with all. I would certainly recommend anyone to join the challenge, as its open to all people, no matter what standard you are. Sean and Shimrit are excellent and easy going hosts, who love what they do.”
"Thank you for bringing me into this lovely, supportive community of writers brought together by the fantastic Sean and Shimrit. My creativity has been nurtured and my thinking stimulated - taking part in this challenge has genuinely accelerated and levelled up my writing and I’m so excited to see where I go with it next!”
“The month nourished my creativity and was super helpful to get me writing again. We had lovely sessions (I took part online and in person) and I am already missing the community and gentle encouraging support to keep going!”
“I've really loved this challenge and can't thank you both enough for reaching out and encouraging me to take the plunge on things. Even though I wasn't able to be as involved with sessions or the group because of my work (I could have done so much more writing); I've really benefited from having the group education, support and community. I've been going through a really hard time recently, I was even feeling dejected by writing which has always been my safe space. This challenge and community has helped me regain my confidence tenfold and has really encouraged me to keep doing what I love. The relaxed and down to earth nature of how you have run the challenge has been a breath of fresh air. I've been put off so many times by high costs and pretentiousness making me lesser because of being from a working class background. W&P has changed that for me and I am incredibly grateful.”
“It was an amazing experience and would love to do it again.”
“The W&P community is a precious pearl, holding in care so many diverse writers and creative thinkers. Sean and Shimrit gently, kindly inspire and support all of us to do the same for one another. It is, by far, filled with the best people I have had the privilege to know, and has had a genuine and lasting impact on my ability to move my writing forward thanks to the support of everyone.”
“The challenge was perfect for me this month. Rather than the big, unachievable goal I had of 'finish the book', I have achieved the challenge of writing 10,000 words of my book in a month. It's a digestible, achievable goal which helped me recommit to my writing rather than it just feel like a huge unachievable burden. And I could start enjoying it again. The workshops were great and I enjoyed the different styles. I especially like the quiet writing opportunities in community, which really helps me get things done and in the zone. It was a pleasure to meet so many fellow writers and I loved hearing other people's contributions and what they are passionate about. I learnt so much from the community and they have inspired me. This month has been important for me to slow down, reengage with my passions and cosy up in my writing blanket. I've really appreciated the challenge and space."
