Accessibility is a Design Tool
Adem believes that technology has the power to change people’s lives, and that we all have the right to inclusive and accessible digital experiences.
Digital people can be reluctant to follow accessibility standards, because they see it as a negative, a constraint, a set of rules you have to follow that stifles creativity and stops you from doing things you really want to do.
But what if he told you that accessibility is the qualities that make an experience open to all? That instead of stifling creativity, accessibility allows us to make better choices, and that it actually helps us make the thing we're building usable by more people.
Since 2001, Adem Cifcioglu worked professionally as an accessibility specialist / web developer on all kinds of web projects, for companies ranging from not for profits to insurance brokers and large corporates.
Adem’s focus has always been on accessibility and best practice. He is a big fan of inclusive design, believes that technology has the power to change people's lives, and that it should be usable by all, regardless of ability.
In 2016, Adem co-founded digital accessibility constancy at Intopia. He is also leader of A11y Bytes Melbourne and co-organiser of A11y Camp accessibility conference. No matter what hat he’s wearing, he is leading the crusade to create universal and barrier free websites.
UX for Vulnerable Users
When we think about accessibility design as a list of guidelines to comply to, It might be easy to treat all disadvantaged users as a homogenous group of people.
Through their work with MacKillop Family Services, Autism Spectrum Australia and Expression Australia, Yump have discovered that the people that each organisation supports are distinctly different, uniquely brilliant and challenged in their own ways.
Yuan will share their process on how they worked with each organisation on user research and experience design, the important lessons that they learnt along the way, and tips that you can incorporate into your own UX practices.
Yuan is co-founder and Head of User Experience at Yump, a UX agency specialising in website transformation. A multi award-winning art director, designer and user experience specialist, Yuan has more than 12 years’ experience working in digital strategy, UX, information architecture and interface design. He has overseen many large-scale digital projects in government, corporate, education and non-profit sectors, helping organisations achieve more engagement and impact via user-centred design principles and collaborative workshops. He is also a regular speaker at UX Australia, ADMA courses and technology meetups.
