Sunset Hills Trail, a Gentler Hike

This week we'll hike the Sunset Hills Trail in Thousand Oaks up to the overlook of the Wood Ranch Reservoir. The trail follows a ridge from which you can look south over Thousand Oaks and north into Simi Valley; it's very pretty!

The distance will be a little shorter than usual at only 3.0 miles, but to compensate, I've arranged for the trail to have a little more steepness on average. Overall there will be about 700' of climbing. We'll take the steeper hills at a slower pace so that nobody gets left behind.

There are a couple of other trails we'll pass so we can go a little further if people want.

Afterwards, we'll meet for lunch at a nearby restaurant. This is optional; you can come out just for the hike and skip the lunch if you prefer.

Directions: Meet at the trailhead parking at the east end of Sunset Hills Blvd. From the 101, turn north on 23 towards Simi Valley. After 4.1 miles, take the Sunset Hills exit and turn east. Drive 1 mile and turn into the parking area on the right, just before the guard gate.
