Unless you hike with Don T regularly, you've probably asked who maintains the trails we get so much enjoyment from. The answer is often "volunteers." Weather and miscreants can severely damage our trails, sometimes wiping them out completely. When that happens, volunteers, with guidance from park rangers, groom, reshape, and sometimes completely engineer pathways through paradise.

This coming Saturday, COSCA will oversee such a feat in Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks, a community park that the Blazers- regulars, Gentlers, and PMers- have used countless times. The work will mostly involve rerouting Lower Lizard Rock Trail, visited by the Gentlers just last week, and by Mad Ken's PM crew Monday evening.

Many of us have done this work before and found it informative as well as gratifying. COSCA is only asking for 4 hours of our time, and I'd like to see the Blazers represent strong!

COSCA provides tools and guidance; you provide gloves, sturdy shoes (your hiking boots are fine), water, sunscreen, hat...anything you'd want for a morning outside. As a bonus, COSCA will give you a "breakfast bag" of goodies to start the day after you register. As ANOTHER bonus (!), there will be grilled burger, hotdogs, and veggieburgers, along with chips, drinks, etc, AND give-aways after the work is done at noon.

Take a morning to give back to the trails that give us so much. Hang out with your friends and whistle while you work.

I would like to give the ranger a good idea of how many Blazers will be coming, so please sign up early and make it there. For more info:
