With La Jolla Canyon closed by a Stevie Nicks song, we're going to get our Point Mugu fix via a new route. As with many new things, details are sketchy, but will be hammered out along the way. For our purposes, let's call the mileage 8, the elevation gain 1800,' and the views immeasurable.

We're going to invert time and space by hiking UP the fabled Ray Miller Trail, rocket across the Overlook Fire Road, slip over the La Jolla Valley, and come to rest on Mugu Peak before skittering down the Chumash Trail. This is a wide, arcing path over, through, and around some of the most inspirational ground the Blazers tread, with ocean views, grass plains, and rocky prominences.

The final half mile leg of the hike, down the Chumash Trail, is steep and can be loose- bring poles if you favor them. It was recently worked on, and might be in slightly better shape than before the landslides. Might.
We will meet at the Chumash Trail parking lot, then shuttle over to La Jolla Canyon to begin the hike. Please be on time so we can organize and get moving.

Directions:
Take the 101 to Los Posas Rd. Turn left onto PCH. The dirt lot is 2.3 miles, on the left, across from the Naval base's rifle range (there's a large, orange tower at the rifle range). The address is approximate, the location is just past it. If you go through Split Rock (Mugu Rock), you've gone too far.
If you take Kanan Rd to PCH, turn right and drive 17.2 miles. The parking area is on the right, just past Split Rock.
