Hunt for California Poppies and Trail Exploration ~ Gentler Friendly

A few years ago, Weekday Trailblazer members helped build a trail that extends north from the Westlake Village YMCA up into the hills west of Lindero Canyon Road. We will hike both the Bowfield Trail and Wishbone Trail on this outing.

This route is about 5 miles with an elevation gain of about 1050’.

I pre-hiked the route on Saturday and the poppies were abundant. There are a couple of short sections of the trail that are a bit overgrown so you might think about wearing long pants if you are sensitive to overgrowth.

DIRECTIONS: Find the trailhead by exiting 101 at Lindero Canyon, and go north to Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Turn left, and immediately turn slightly right, and uphill, to the new park high above the Boulevard. At the top, turn left, and drive to the far left (west) end of the ball fields.

There are restrooms and water fountains near the trailhead and the ball fields. We'll adjourn afterwards to the eateries at the Northeast corner of Lindero Canyon and Thousand Oaks Blvd.
