Dos Vientos -- Ride the Two Winds, a Gentler Friendly (but not Beginner) Hike.
Details
Please note this hike is not for beginners. The Dos Vientos Trail system is a network of many trails and you need to be able to keep in contact to avoid being lost! Not the best hike is you are a slow hiker.
Note also that there is a chance of some rain Thursday morning. Unless it is significant, I won't cancel, so stay tuned in the morning for any last minute info.
This hike will loop around the periphery of Dos Vientos, passing Twin Ponds, overlooking Potrero Road and the Oxnard Plain with the Channel Islands in the background. Some short sections will be along the street.
This hike is about 6.0 miles with 1100 feet of elevation gain.
Pace: This is a gentler friendly hike. We will go at a slightly slower pace than the Intermediate Trailblazer Hike, but we will try to finish in 2.5 hours. Faster hikers are welcome to join us so long as they are willing to hike at the slower pace of the group or wait at the forks on the trail. There are many confusing side trails in Dos Vientos so I will mark the trail if necessary, but I ask that everyone plan to stay in contact with the group. Note there is no cover on most of this trail so bring plenty of water.
Please review the revised guidelines to participate in our hikes. We are requiring proof of vaccination to join a hike.
Restrictions apply for your safety and ours:
- Don't show up unless you're on the "Attending" list
- Unregistered or waitlisted will be turned away
- No "Plus Ones" on this hike
- Plan on completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.
- No dogs
- All participants must be 18 or older, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
DIRECTIONS: From the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park, exit at Borchard Road. Drive 3.4 miles and turn into the Dos Vientos Community Park on the right, just after Via Ricardo (and before Via Las Brisas). Meet by the tennis courts to the left.
If you are coming from the NW, exit Wendy and turn left on Wendy and then a right on Borchard to Dos Vientos Community Park.
