Gentler - Longer Hidden Valley Overlook - 5.25 miles, 950'

Details

This hike starts in the Rancho Sierra Vista Trailhead parking lot, and traverses the Satwiwa area, climbs to the old windmill, and then continues up, up, and up to a beautiful view of the upper Sycamore Canyon and Hidden Valley. We'll loop around the hill at the top, then zig-zag our way back down the hill to the cars.

We may encounter cattle at the top, or at least "evidence" of their presence :-)

Surprisingly, there are a number of wildflowers still in bloom, even now well after the landscape usually turns golden brown.

Please review the revised guidelines to participate in our hikes. Restrictions apply for your safety and ours:

  • Don't show up unless you're on the "Attending" list
  • No "Plus Ones" on this hike. If you want to bring someone along, have them sign up, and make sure they're aware of, and agree to, these restrictions.
  • Plan on completing the entire hike at a 2.5 mph pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.
  • All participants must be 18 or older, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • No dogs.

Directions: From the 101 in Thousand Oaks, exit at Lynn Road and drive 5.5 miles southwest. Enter the National Recreation Area and drive all the way to the end. We will meet in the parking lot near the vault toilets. Google Maps directions are inaccurate in this area - read and follow these instead.
