Arroyo Canyon Trail to Lynnmere Trail ~ Gentler Intermediate

Details

We will start by following the pleasant single-track on the left (not the road to the right, which descends to a dead-end at the creek) from the Rancho Conejo Playfields in Newbury Park. The trail skirts the edge of a neighborhood and its steep-walled canyon, which provides great scenic views along the Barranca and through riparian native plant communities, Wildwood Park, and the Pacific Ocean. There is a creek crossing with rocks and wood pallets to make "dry crossing" easy when we reach the bottom of the canyon. Then, we will turn right at a T-junction and begin a steady climb out of the canyon to the Lynnmere Trail. The trail passes the backs of some houses, dips into a woodland, and emerges into a meadow where we get a panoramic view to the west. Here, we will retrace our way back to the Arroyo Conejo Trail and back to the parking lot.
This hike is about 5 miles long with an elevation gain/loss of approximately 1000 feet.

Directions:
From 101 Freeway, drive 1/4 mile north on Ventu Park Rd. Turn right into the parking lot at the Rancho Conejo Playfields (at 950 N. Ventu Park Road) and the Arroyo Conejo trailhead is on the right.
