🤞🏻Newton Canyon to Buzzards Roost🌊🌊- 8 Mile Intermediate Hike

Details

This hike will start at 8:00. We will meet in the parking lot on Kanan at Newton Canyon, we'll jump on the Backbone Trail for a cruise over and up to the peak of the Zuma Ridge Trail at Buzzard's Roost. On the ridge, we'll have a great view of Zuma Beach and the Pacific. On our way there, we'll cross a free-flowing creek (not sure the water is still there), pass under a recovering oak canopy (to remind us of the cycles of life). We will hit the fire road. Some of us (anyone who wants to) can stop at the fire road and then head back (about 5 miles). The more intermediate hikers can go on up to Buzzards Roosts for a total of 8 miles.

This is an out and back hike at a total of 8 miles, with 1600' total elevation gain, leading to the turnaround point with the ocean view at Buzzards Roost. Plan to stay with the group unless and until you decide to turn around early, just let someone know what you are doing. There are trees in the canyon but the fire road will be hot, bring lots of water.

Directions:

From the 101, go south (toward beaches) on Kanan Road about 8 miles to just before the third tunnel (T1). The parking lot is on the right.

From Pacific Coast Highway, go north on Kanan Dume Road about 4 miles and make a left turn into the parking lot immediately after going through the first tunnel.

Please review the guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:
