Rancho Potrero trails loop in Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa ~ Gentler Intermediate

Details
To beat the heat, we will start at 8:00am. The hike begins at the parking lot to the Ranch Potrero Trail, turning right onto Olympia Farm Trail. We will check out old Olympia Farms Amphitheater and Picnic area and loop back to Ranch Potrero Trail. At the juncture of Sycamore Canyon Fire Road, we will turn left onto Rancho Sierra Vista.
This area is pretty exposed, but offers a nice ocean breeze a majority of the time. "Satwiwa" is Chumashan and directly translates to "the bluffs," which can also translate to "higher places," and is the Chumashan name used for a former village near the current culture center.

The eastern area is moderately flat and you will see bluffs to the west, leading to a moderate hill. At the peak, you’ll have awesome views of Big Sycamore Canyon Trail, which descend from Satwiwa to the Pacific Ocean along a historic Chumash trade route, as well as toward Boney. We will continue hiking the Loop Trail on the other side when we return to the Sycamore Canyon Fire Road and head back to the car.
This is about 5-6 miles with an elevation gain/loss of approximately 1000’
Directions:
Exit 101 at Lynn Road in Thousand Oaks. Go west for 5.5 miles, and turn left, under the Rancho Sierra Vista arch, into the National Park. Drive to the end of the driveway, and park near the restrooms.
