\*\*During warm weather Monte Nido is a little island of coolness. So this Thursday we’ll be hiking a section of the Backbone Trail that runs through it. The trail is particularly pretty, and very shaded overall. We’ll meet at the pay parking lot on Malibu Canyon, just south of Piuma Rd. (There is some free parking nearby, and if you get there early, I can point them out to you.) This is an out and back hike of 6 1/2 miles with 1100 elevation gain.\*\*

Bring sunscreen, plenty of water, and wear sturdy shoes and a sun hat. Please consider bringing trekking poles and the 10 essentials (https://bit.ly/1vB2Avz).

Our departure time is 8:30 a.m. Please plan on arriving by 8:15 to get your boots and backpack on in time.
