Sycamore Canyon Scenic and Great Dune View Trails ~ Gentler Intermediate
Details
Scenic and Great Dune View Trails Loop in Sycamore Canyon is a heavily trafficked stunningly picturesque portion of the west end of Malibu. The thigh-high vegetation allows for open views both up Big Sycamore Canyon and down on the blue waters beyond the mouth of the canyon.
From the top of Scenic Trail, make a hard left on a trail that traverses the ridge framing the west side of the bottom of Big Sycamore Canyon which offers breathtaking views of the Canyon and the ocean with striking sea breezes. Sturdy shoes and hiking poles are recommended as some areas require rock scrambling for this highly rewarding ridge hike.
This hike is about 5-6 miles with approximately 1000’ of elevation gain/loss.
Directions:
From Ventura, take PCH eastward, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road.
From Los Angeles, take PCH north, 21.5miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. On the right, you will find Sycamore Canyon campground which is the entrance to Sycamore Canyon Trail.
*** There is a parking fee of $3/hr or $12/day and free parking can be found along PCH between the entrance and Gaigan Sand Dune (1/4 mile from the campground - allow a few extra minutes if you park on PCH).
