The poppies and other flowers are abundant at what we often refer to as the Westlake YMCA - officially at the Westlake Village Community Park. We will head up into the hills west of Lindero Canyon Road via the Wishbone Trail and on to the Bowfield Trail. If the heat doesn't wipe us out, we'll do a full 6 miles roundtrip from the parking lot to Bowfield Street...giving us a good climb at both the start and the middle of the hike. If it's too brutal, we'll turn around to make it a 5 mile hike. We will venture off the groomed trail onto a use trail into fields of poppies...it's worth it, trust me.

This route is about 6 miles with an elevation gain of about 1600’ (guessing here as I patch together some different device readings.)

I hiked the route twice in the last two weeks and the poppies were spectacular. Keep your fingers crossed that the heat hasn't changed that!

Bring lots of water and whatever you need to stay cool. The trail is exposed.

DIRECTIONS: Find the trailhead by exiting 101 at Lindero Canyon, and go north to Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Turn left, and immediately turn slightly right, and uphill, to the community park high above TO Boulevard. At the top, turn left, and drive to the far left (west) end of the ball fields.
Do NOT leave anything of value in your car, at this or any other trailhead.
