Wildflowers! Topanga SP (Deadhorse Trailhead)
Details
Topanga State Park (TSP) is in full bloom! This out-and-back hike will take us through the two most picturesque trails in TSP. We will start at the Deadhorse Trailhead at the base of Entrada Drive. The Deadhorse trail climbs through riparian and oak woodland (about 400' in 1.25 miles) before breaking out into chaparral and rolling grasslands at Trippet Ranch. At Trippet Ranch we pick up the Musch trail which continues through more open chaparral bursting with wildflowers. The plan is to turn around at Musch Camp for a leisurely 5 mile hike with a total gain of about 650'.
Directions:
From the 101, exit at Topanga Canyon Boulevard (CA 27), drive south over the crest of the mountains and proceed three miles to Entrada Drive and turn left. Deadhorse parking is on the left (about 1000 feet from Topanga Canyon Blvd)
From the Pacific Coast Highway, travel north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, pass the post office at the center of "town," then turn right on Entrada Drive. Deadhorse parking is on the left, right after starting up Entrada.
Parking is $10.00/$9.00 for seniors. Free parking off Topanga Canyon Blvd (at own risk!)
