This walkabout (on trail and sand) will take us from the Rincon parking area to the top of the bluffs. About 1/2 mile in we will cross the train tracks to access the Bluffs trail. The Bluffs trail hugs the coastline all the way to Carpinteria State Beach. Along the way we will pass through the Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve, skirt the seal sanctuary (below), and wander by the famous tar pits. If the tide tables are in our favor, we will be able to walk on the hard sand along the campground stretch of the hike. If not, we can walk through the campgrounds.

Hopefully, the temperature will stay at a reasonable number. There will be the sound of the ocean waves and probably a nice breeze for the entire hike. See photos below.

This hike clocks in at around 6 3/4 miles with about 250' of elevation. If it gets too hot, we can always cut it short.

If you are coming from above the grade, see if you can carpool. There are toilets in the parking lot, where we are meeting, plus more along the way.
