We all know Griffith Park is the largest park in Los Angeles (and the 10th largest urban park in the US), but did you know that O'Melveny Park in Granada Hills is #2? Remnants of the citrus groves and sprawling grasslands that fed grazing cattle on this former ranch are evident around the lower park.

They're just the appetizer for the Blazers' main course- a climb up to Mission Point, and the best view of the San Fernando Valley you'll find anywhere. Though only 6 miles, the hike demands 1500' of climbing to earn that view. The ascent features a half mile that's particularly steep. The pay-off is a 360 degree sweep of the Santa Monica Mountains, the San Gabriel Mountains, and the Valley. Along the way, we'll pass through Bee Canyon with its unyielding sandstone walls, and a seasonal pond. http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/5/d/4/a/event_92363882.jpeg
