Halloween Mystery Hike (10km)
Details
On the day after Halloween (Saturday 1st Nov), we'll have a hike around a few spooky places in the hills around Dublin. From our meeting point we will take a small bus to a mystery location where we will start our walk. As it's a mystery hike, we won't go into too many details, but we will visit places that are thought to be haunted and have many legends associated with them including those of a supernatural nature. The hike should also interest people who like historical places and good views over Dublin (weather permitting).
Meeting Location: Outside Eurogiant on Belgrade Square West near Tallaght Luas. When you come off the tram at Tallaght Luas look in the direction the tram was coming from and you'll see Boyle Sports. A couple of shops along to the left is Eurogiant. We'll meet there as that will be where our bus leaves from. It will probably leave promptly at 13:40 so please be on time. Have your Leap cards ready for the bus.
As the bus is very small, there will only be 10 places on this hike, so if you find you can no longer make the hike, please cancel promptly so that someone else can take you place if they wish. For people still on the Waitlist a couple of hours before the walk, it will be left up to you to decide if it's still worth coming in case someone cancels at the last minute or another space can be found on the bus. If there's a space on the bus after people registered on the walk and other members of the public have got on, then feel free to jump on. If there's no space, then you could do your own walk around the parks of Tallaght such as Sean Walsh Memorial Park and Tymon Park.
The weather probably won't be warm enough to have a long picnic, but feel free to bring snacks as we'll probably have a short break at some point along the walk. Alternatively there's a café in the first half of the walk which we could stop off at and a pub towards the end of the walk.
From there it's a fairly short walk to a bus stop with buses back to town.
Feel free to come on the walk even if you haven't been to a meet up before. This is a great way to meet new people and see new places.
*** If you wish to wander off during a break then it's probably OK but please agree with the organisers a time you'll return so we're not waiting for you ***
FAQs
- Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details
- Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
- How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as a medium walk or hike, so having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Some parts of the walk are quite steep and the total distance is around 10km. You can bring walking poles if you wish.
- Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
- Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to.
Host: Tim (085 718 5658) On the day of the event, if you need to contact the organiser then please send a WhatsApp message or SMS or phone. Before the day you can send a message via Whatsapp or leave a message below.
*** RSVP Essential ***. It's OK to RSVP if you want to come but not completely sure of your plans but if you then find out you can't make it, please adjust your RSVP accordingly in enough time for someone on the waitlist to take your place and so we're not waiting for you unnecessarily.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you join our walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks.
Please wear shoes or runners that you find comfortable. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather. If you have walking poles you may wish to bring them too as some paths are a bit steep.
