Abstract:
Most of the non-political news lately has been devoted to AI, both the promise of and the fallout from. One looming question regards the future of the computer programmer. Can this profession survive in the face of growing AI competency?

I conducted several experiments, recreating software originally written by teams of developers, with a team of myself, ChatGPT, and Claude Code. I compared not only the amount of time to write the code, but also the time for developing requirements, test plans, release plans, documentation, etc.

In this talk I will share my results and insights.

Bio:
Kelly Shaw has a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science, and has worked in the computing world as a developer, technical manager, architect, professor, and yes, even sales, for nearly 40 years.
