On to the chapter that all of us (me) have been waiting for: point of view
For those who're new here, we're working through Ursula K. Le Guin's craft guide "Steering the Craft" one chapter at a time. This is chapter 7.
Agenda
We'll be doing parts one and two of the exercise this time. There's three, four, and more, but that's likely too much for one meetup.
Part one has two subparts: both will use the third person limited POV, but will switch characters. Part two will use the detached narrator POV.
Prework
Please read the chapter (uploaded here) before the meetup.
If we have the time, we'll be hearing everyone's pieces. Otherwise, we'll work with select volunteers ;) Pen and paper (or writing tablet) works best for this sort of thing, but no stress if you want to stick to laptops.
Tentative Schedule
1. Intros and we discuss the chapter (15 minutes).
2. We spend 15 minutes doing part 1a of the exercise.
3. We spend 15 minutes discussing our pieces and giving feedback. Sharing is optional.
4. We spend 15 minutes doing part 1b of the exercise.
5. We spend 15 minutes discussing our pieces and giving feedback. Sharing is optional.
6. We spent 15 minutes doing part 2 of the exercise.
7. We spend 15 minutes discussing our pieces and giving feedback. Sharing is optional.
8. If time remains, we'll reflect on the exercise and more POV work in two weeks!
Notes
1. This is an English language meetup where we'll be speaking and reading English.
2. Please make sure to order something as we'll be hanging around for a while.
