The Examined Life, "Let's Read Philosophy..." session is an open discussion reading group held regularly about once month concerning a single work of philosophy.

For each session, members read a piece of philosophy. The main request is to learn the key points from the text (which will form the basis of the discussion), with optional extra background material/depth. If applicable it can include a podcast at http://partiallyexaminedlife.com .

This session: Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan

The schedule is as follows:

November: Plato's Apology

December: Descartes' Meditations

January: Hume's Enquiry

March: Kant's Prolegomena

April: Freud's Civilization

May: Schopenhauer's Principles

June: Foucault's Discipline

July: Quine's Dogmas

September: Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics Book 6

October: Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan

These works cover the most significant works in the history of philosophy and are designed to give members a broad appreciation of the subject.

The Hoop & Grapes serves teas, coffees, alcohol and food. It has a comfortable private room on the TOP FLOOR for private discussions and events.

The bar is open before and after the session.

NB.

Please RSVP if you can commit to attending and change your RSVP if something comes up. Inaccurate RSVPs can make it difficult to plan for room sizes and bookings.
