Let's Discuss... Nationalism vs Globalism

The Examined Life, "Let's Discuss..." session is an open discussion held regularly, usually every month.

The topic for this meetup is Nationalism vs Globalism.

Nationalism will be defined (for this meetup) as: the promotion/prioritisation of the interests of a nation over global/transnational concerns/considerations. Ideas like patriotism and sovereignty.

Globalism will be defined (for this meetup) as: the promotion/prioritisation of the interests of the globe/planet/humanity over any particular nation/subgroup.

Despite the ''vs'' in the title, this meetup is not about an intellectual battle/''fight'', but discussing the nuances of the two positions civilly. It is also important to note that a position doesn't have to be either or; both can exist to a certain extent.

Since I anticipate the discussion might get heated, please be respectful to all positions/arguments, so a genuine free speech dialectic can occur.

The format of the meetup will be:

2pm - Free flow group discussion.
3pm - Break.
3.15pm - Going around the group with optional individual uninterrupted input (about 5 minutes each).
4pm - Break.
4.15pm - Final free flow group discussion.
5pm - End of official meetup and if room is still available attendees can stay and continue discussing if they wish.

People can use the break time to discuss the topic (or something else) with each other if they have no need/want for a break.
