General Biological Philosophy

This meetup is especially for those Examined Life members, new and long term, who have been interested in biological philosophy, philosophy of the word made flesh, who have been in a minority in most meet ups.
Thanks to Haraway, and Greenwood, there are now good enough resources [e.g. good enough works on neuroscience and epigenetics and so on] to meet face to face with enough resources of the biological sort to discuss the consequences of immediate and significant images and feelings relating our species human to consequences, that deserve [or do not deserve] our attention [on some basis or other] that we can see, know, or are ignorant of.
By holding such discourses we can make ourselves fit for a commensalist commensalism on earth, with other animals and humans.
For those unsure of what we mean by this there is the posthumous book by Richard Rorty - Pragmatism as Anti-Authoritarianism - that demonstrates the limits to which analytical philosophy is able to go with its own discourse ethics, stuck with Genius, Art, Science, and Money, on its way to a democratic outcome of some sort [pace Haraway].
The notion of an inclusive democracy is seminal to this group and discourses around a general biological philosophy became one way to achieve such an outcome once we were able to pay attention to parts of life that occur inside our bodies, i.e. genes and molecules of emotion, intuitions and feelings, and neurons and suchlike.
The folk organising this bunch of meet ups, bill and jean, have spent some time delving into such issues, and hope others will join us. Bill's landlord has been kind enough to provide a large hall making it possible to have large and small group breakout meet ups on the second Friday of each month, subject to these announcements, and Peter has given the nod for us to make this offer. There is no charge other than to follow the examined life rules of civility and respect. Note that we do have links with the Nordic Summer University which is currently actively working on issues of global awareness and can offer useful links to serious personal studies in biological philosophy with study groups and yearly conferences at both academic and quotidian levels of study.
