This fortnightly gathering's subject this time is on Evil.
● What is it?
● Could you point it out if you saw it?
● Did your cultural/family upbringing shape a way of viewing Evil?
● Can we find, lay out, and discuss academic or other sources of perspective on Evil which clash?
● Does the word "Evil" still hold practicality in the present? Or is it good only for fiction?

Join us from 1 PM to 4 PM. Do stay longer if you're having a good time.
This occasion will be taken place outside this time as it is a lovely time of year.
♤ There are plenty of places near by for rest room use.◇
If the heavens are not on our side we will still have the ♧Mad Hatter Hotel♡ a short walk from the location and a short walk away from Waterloo and Southwark underground station.

Here are some relevant quotes from philosophers on the concept of evil:

"Evil has no real substance of its own, being merely the defect, privation, or absence of good." - St. Augustine

"Evil is the privation of good." - Thomas Aquinas

"Evil is not something positive, but the absence of the good which is natural and due to things." - Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz

"Evil is merely privative, not absolute: it is a privation of the good it ought to have." - Immanuel Kant

"Evil is not an absolute self-subsisting co-eternal counter-principle, equally primordial with the good, but a relative, impermanent lack or privation of being." - Plotinus

If you haven't read the The Examined Life rules (or need a refresher), which can be found here, please do so before the meetup:

Please RSVP if you can commit to attending and change your RSVP if something comes up. Inaccurate RSVPs can keep potential attendees on the waiting list and makes it difficult to plan for room sizes and bookings.
