We are excited to announce that The AI Talks have been invited to hold a panel discussion on the Ethics & the unconscious bias of AI at Connected World Summit & AI Tech World at Printworks, Surrey Quays.

With the embedding of AI in our businesses and our day to day lives; what systems and checks can we put in place to ensure that humans embed a balanced and clearly defined default position in our AI’s? with our; moral principles, ethics and human values, encourage transparency, that AI evolves to be non-discriminatory and respect data protection.

Amazon, Google, Facebook, IBM, and Microsoft have established a non-profit partnership to formulate best practices on artificial intelligence technologies, advance the public's understanding, and to serve as a platform about artificial intelligence.

In this panel discussion, we will engage in dialogue and explore;

  1. How can we better educate ourselves about the risks of unconscious bias in humans and in our technology?
  2. How can we better embed the art of responsibility within humanity, to ensure that we make decisions to protect humans and to enhance our lives?
  3. What transformation is required to ensure that humans and AI can work together cohesively and in harmony?
  4. How do we harness empathy and common sense to promote and support humans to be responsible agents of technology?

PANEL

Beth Singler, Junior Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence at Homerton College, University of Cambridge

Dr. Beth Singler is the newly appointed Junior Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence at Homerton College, University of Cambridge. She takes up this position after being the Post-Doctoral Research Associate on a three year Templeton funded project, “Human Identity in an age of Nearly-Human Machines,” at the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion. In her research, she explores the social, ethical, philosophical and religious implications of advances in Artificial Intelligence and robotics.

Rob McCargow, Director of AI, PwC UK

Rob works with partners across academia, government, technology vendors, and start-ups in order to drive innovation within the Firm and develop new services for clients. He’s an evangelist for responsible technology and promotes awareness of the ethical agenda relating to AI. He’s an advisor to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on AI, The IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, a TEDx speaker, and an RSA Fellow.

Catalina Butnaru, City AI and Women in AI Ambassador

Catalina Butnaru is a City AI and Women in AI Ambassador in London, where she works with the local community of AI practitioners, researchers, academics, and professionals on democratizing access to accurate information about the state of AI and its applications. She is developing an agile ethics design process to help teams expand their responsibility when developing AI systems that will positively impact individuals and the society as a whole.

David Wood, Chairman, London Futurists

David Wood was one of the pioneers of the smartphone industry. He spent 25 years at Psion, Symbian, and Accenture, designing, implementing, and avidly using smart mobile devices. He is now chair of London Futurists, and has organised over 200 public meetings on technoprogressive topics in the past decade. David is an RSA Fellow.

AGENDA
The event will start from 5.30pm - 6.00pm for networking and drinks and then from 6.00pm - 7.00pm for the Panel Discussion + Q&A.
