WORKSHOP | INVITING PAUSE AND REFLECTION THROUGH THE PRACTICE OF PAPER FOLDING

Origata and orisue are traditional Japanese paper-folding practices, often considered precursors to what we now know as origami. While origami is commonly associated with decorative or representational forms, origata and orisue focus on wrapping, folding, and presentation as acts of care and intention.

These practices invite us to slow down and work with attention. Each fold becomes a deliberate gesture — toward the material, the person receiving the gift, and ourselves. In a world that often prioritizes speed and perfection, this way of working restores value to presence, patience, and the time we choose to give.

During the workshop, we will create an orisue-inspired gift book.

The workshop fee is €60 per person and includes all materials. You will receive take-home instructions to continue exploring the practice beyond the workshop. To keep the experience intimate, the workshop is limited to eight participants. The workshop is taught in English.

Location: SAAM Gent, Hagelandkaai 40, Gent ( through the Coconne gate).

March 7, from 14:00 to 16:45
