Yesterday's event at Boordy's

Hi folks

This is relevant info/thoughts for anyone in the member list but even more specifically for anyone who tried to attend yesterday.

To anyone who couldn't find us, my apologies - we had a few factors working against us:

I got tied up and arrived at about 1:30, and the other attending members who I knew from the first event, got similarly tied up and arrived a few minutes after I did;

The Boordy event was much bigger than we realized and much more crowded;

The venue, while fantastic, wasn't conducive to having signage since we didn't have tables - we should have had a banner or unique clothing...I joked that perhaps I should be 'the guy in the sombrero' from now on at all events;

We did think that we could cluster and 'find each other' at the front gate but it didn't work due to lateness and potentially not recognizing members (due to no photos in some cases);

We hadn't shared cell numbers around, which we will do from now on, at least with the attending (eg RSVP = yes) individuals;

Event planning at short notice probably didn't help either;

Having said all of that, as Marci said, it was a great venue with great wine and music. Mind you, they ran out of chili at 3:30 which was hard to believe, and the food/wine lines were a bit long and slow. I have already given feedback to Boordys and received an email from their president offering 2 free passes for Soups in the Cellar events in Nov at Boordys (which I see another meetup is doing as an event as well). ASS Soup perhaps?

Ah well, we live and learn, and plan again - there was some interest in an event this week, but my week is shaping up to be a bit busy, so while I could post a event at a local pub called Houlihan's (there was some interest in this) for Thursday, I probably couldn't attend myself (which is not to say it shouldn't happen, but unless someone volunteers to bring a sign, make a reservation and set up a table for people so that it was easy to find, it may not work - we don't need to rush the plans for events). I would rather see them done right.

I am also thinking of having a 'welcoming committee' of at least 2-3 people for each event, so that we have a backup/fail safe for anyone who may be late, and perhaps that group shares their numbers with each other. They can be the designated 'lookout' and wear something easily identifiable. Seriously? Do we need to get ASS Shirts? Maybe....

There have also been a couple of people who offered to be Co-Organizers or 'casual' organizers from time to time, so if you are interested in doing that, let me know for sure and I will confer with myself and render such designations as 'Knights of the ASS Table' (or something like that - Knightesses??).

Cheers all and thanks for your time,
Jeff
