What we’re about
Our values:
1. This is a place for creative exploration (so we will encourage and foster an environment for creativity and experimentation)
2. This can also be space for growth (we will support and nurture our collective growth as individuals and as a community - want to work on your public speaking skills, confidence, emotional intelligence, ...? We've got your back)
3. Most important of all - this is a space for fun: above all, what keeps bringing us back is the laughter and good vibes, and that alone makes it all worth it 🙂

Let's play Theatre Games in the Park!
This is a group for anyone who loves improvisational (unscripted) theatre and comedy. We meet twice a month in the beautiful Botanic Gardens, to play a wide variety of theatre games.
The priority of this group is to have fun and meet friendly and awesome people! As a result, no acting experience is required - all you need is an open mind and a positive attitude! Afterwards we go for drinks at the Paragon Hotel.
What do we do in the Meetup?
We play all sorts of games that involve improvisational comedy. Many of them you might know from the popular TV show "Whose Line is it Anyway?". The games we play are different every time, but here is one example of how much fun we have:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a23t0evG3xI
Where & When will the meetups be held?
We meet twice per month, on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. But, check the Meetup events for the exact dates, as this sometimes varies due to public holidays, or organiser's availability.
We meet in the Botanic Gardens in Sydney CBD. More precisely, we meet under the big oak tree next to the Cupid Statue, which is close to the Rose Garden Pavilion, on the west side of the park, opposite 145 Macquarie Street.
Map: https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/33%C2%... \
What does it cost?
We charge $3 per person per event, or you can choose to pay $25 for an annual membership. This can be paid in person at the Meetup, or online (bank details in the event descriptions).
I don't have any theatre experience. Can I still join?
Of course! This group is open to everyone who is interested in playing theatre games.
Who can join the meetup?
Anyone. Provided they come with good vibes and wanting to have fun & make others have fun.
The concept of this meetup is to play and enjoy games. Knowing a bit of English helps, but not a strict requirement (some of our members actually come to improve their English) and guess what? There is no such thing as 'mistakes' in improv - scenes tend to get an extra laugh when someone 'stuffs up'! While we encourage anyone to participate, be reminded that this is a space for creative exploration (so there could be swearing, political incorrectness, etc.)
Does it require any physical strength?
Not really. Occasionally a game may require rapid movement and getting down and off the grass quickly. But this is always optional. At any time, if you do feel tired you can leave the game, take a rest and come back at your own pace.
What should I bring to the meetup? What should I wear?
Just bring yourself, with energy and a positive attitude!
Most people dress casually for the Meetup (see photos for examples) but feel free to wear a suit, or even a costume if you like (please do!)!
Are you active on social media sites?
Yes! We have a Facebook page and an Instagram page, for sharing photos from our sessions, and helping more people discover our group. If this interests you, please feel free to Follow / Like :)

The show will go on! There is a gazebo 30 seconds walk from our normal spot, and we simply go under it. There is also a second gazebo a few minutes walk away. Can you help promote my event / group / cult?
Yes.. but within reason! We love to help our members who are doing awesome and creative projects. The problem is that because we get asked to promote things so often, we cannot do so via social media posts. As this would cause our members to be "spammed" and announcements about upcoming events to get buried. However, there are still two ways we can help to promote your project. Firstly, please feel free to post on our Facebook Discussion group. Secondly, you are also welcome to post in our Meetup Forum, where your post may be seen by our 1,800+ members.
Lastly, we may be able to help in additional ways if you wish to share an opportunity for our members to perform. In this case we may be able to send a Meetup Message to our members, or to announce it in person at our events.
What if I have other questions?
If possible please post any questions in the comments area below rather than directly messaging us, so that others can see the answer too. This will allow us to spend less time answering messages, and more time making the games as fun as possible!14 attendees- The importance of facing the audience in the right way

[Jedi Theme Edition] Play Theatre Games in the Park! (Sydney)
Botanic Gardens, next to the Cupid Statue, Sydney, AU"For a thousand generations the Jedi were guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy"
Now is your chance to come as Jedi knight!
Dress up for the part, if you like :)
But, more importantly, be ready to play out your dream version of being a Jedi.
Remember that being a Jedi is not just about light sabres and fighting - these are necessities of the order, not its essence. And those who come will have a chance to compete for the "golden sabre" prize!
How do you win this prize?
By making comments in the scenes you are in that link to the universe of some published sci fi novel or movie ... The more obscure the source you allude to, the more points you will score!Everyone is welcome, no matter your level of Improv expertise!
To get a sense of the more mystical aspects of the Jedi, you might want to check out the following video:

Acc No: 313632027
Use your name in the reference line so the Treasurer can keep track of your contribution. If you want to maximise your points for winning the "golden sabre" prize, here are some aspects you could do homework on:
-
Triple points will be awarded if you allude to a published sci fi work that is pre-1971 and is out of general popular awareness.
Examples:
* "This is the worst recycled rocket fuel I ever tasted" (movie Moon Zero Two, 1969)
* "This is more irritating than a Tyranni uniform collar" (novel The Stars Like Dust, 1951, Asimov)
* "You are a tough little runt, aren't you? You sure you are not a Mesklinite?" (novel Mission of Gravity, 1953, Hal Clement) -
Quadruple points will be awarded to an allusion to any aspect of the setting/mythos of the tabletop role-playing game Traveller (any edition).
Examples:
* "You are really devious, you know that? Are you sure you're not Zhodani?"
* "Jeez, you're touchier than an Aslan!"
* "You're as treacherous as a Vargr ..."
Research videos for Traveller:
a) Style of sci fi Traveller upholds
b) Scope of charted space in Traveller- Of course, allusions made to the Star Wars universe will score points as well. Weighting will be towards the lesser known aspects of that setting. (The 1990s 'Expanded Universe' novels will be allowable references!)
