SPEEC PlayReadings: "The Brig" Living Theatre "Savage Conversations" Leanne Howe

Details

Join us for the eleventh play reading of Theatre Makers' SPEEC Play Reading Series of plays with social, political, economic, and environmental change (SPEEC) themes.

We'll read online this time due to the pandemic:

  • "The Brig" is a protest against power and violence that depicts a typical day in a U.S. Marine Corps military prison called The Brig.

  • "Savage Conversations" traces Mary Todd Lincoln's descent into madness after her husband's assassination with guilt about a massacre of Native Americans.

We will read these plays in honor of American Indian Heritage month and Veteran's Day.

Warning: these plays include portrayals of military violence, imprisonment, mental illness, and a massacre of Native Americans.

Please RSVP and answer the question with your email address so that we can send you PDF files of the script.

Please arrive on time and be prepared to read the plays, which will take at least 3 hours. You may stay for only the first of the two plays if you wish. If there is time, we can discuss the plays after the reading.

Everyone is welcome to read a part. If you'd prefer a particular role, please let us know in response to the RSVP question.
