We will be painting on canvas. Stretched canvas is preferred for formal projects, canvas sheets taped to a solid substrate are a great for exercises. Recommended canvas size for beginners is 12” x 16/18”.
Each student may require different brush sets depending on their goals. We recommend starting with flat shader brushes; Golden Taklon brushes for oil paint, Bristle for Acrylics, in an assortment of sizes, as well as small and medium fan brushes.
Starter set should include the following: Titanium White
Cadmium Red Hue*
Cadmium Yellow Hue* Phtalo Blue
Other pigments will be recommended on an individual basis.
Note: do NOT buy, or use in class, the actual Cadmium‐pigment paint, as it is highly toxic and requires special handling. The fake one (It’ll read “Hue”) is just fine.
Small, medium and large palette knives (plastic ok). Odorless turpentine for oil painting.
