What we're about

You’ve watched Critical Role, you bought the Starter Kit, you’ve created multiple characters...and you’re stuck. You want to learn how to fight a dragon (possibly in a dungeon), but you can't find a reliable group. You are in the right place. I started this meetup to create a welcoming, safe, and encouraging community for tabletop roleplaying. This hobby can seem very difficult to access, and getting started can feel impossible. This group is about eliminating those barriers and creating a wonderful place for both new and experienced gamers.

Table top roleplaying games are an awesome experience, and my tables are open to all players. I'll teach you everything you need to know, and everybody we play with is very welcoming to players interested in checking out the hobby. I bring all the essentials: minis, dice, play-map, etc.

Three reasons: reliability, quality, and immersion. Because all our players have "skin in the game" they are much more invested. Because we compensate our DMs, they are always on point with an awesome adventure.

Tickets:

Here's the secret to this group: we pay our DMs. Because of this, sessions run on time, with prepared faciliators, and typically full tables of players. Accordingly, all players are required to purchase their seats in advance. Because preparation by the DM and other participants is impacted by the number of players, ticket reservations are final, no exceptions. Also, please do not "drop in" to the event. Cash is not accepted at the table.🔥🔮⚔️

Why on earth would I pay to play an RPG?

Three reasons: reliability, quality, and immersion. Because all our players have "skin in the game" they are much more invested. Because we compensate our DMs, they are always on point with an awesome adventure.

I personally vet each DM and the DM team upholds rigorous quality standards of play.

Quality Standards:

a) We make sure all participants have the basic materials they need, whether in person or online. Several online platforms have in app purchases. Our DMs purchase the materials required to run adventures for the group. Any player character focused materials (specifically D&D Beyond content) is the responsibility of the player to purchase if desired (it is not necessary to run and enjoy the game).

b) Sessions occur on schedule, at the same date and time each week, unless all participants agree to a new date and time. We've run over 200 games, and only had cancellations twice by the DMs (due to illness).

c) Our players realize this is a cooperative endeavour. Mutual respect and cooperation is what we expect of all participants. DMs are trained in how to "share the spotlight" and no player is allowed to derail the experience.

d) In game themes of sexual assault, rape, or racism are expressly prohibited. Obvioiusly these things are also prohibited between people as well.

e) DMs are highly responsive to feedback. We encourage all players to message either their DMs or me personally to ensure that each experience is awesome!

f) Disruptive behaviors by participants is first resolved in game, and then addressed by DMs out of game. DMs may remove players from sessions if needed to ensure a quality session. (To date we've never had to do this because players tend to work really well together.)

g) If there are any issues regarding DMs, please contact me (Adam Scott). If any of these standards have been broken, I will provide a full refund for your session.

h) DMs are expected to be prepared and begin on time. They are expected to deliver a quality experience on the platform of their choosing (typically roll20 and discord), every session.

i) DMs are expected to know their setting and adventure, and should be ready to adapt to player decisions.

j) DMs are expected to keep the game moving. Social interaction is awesome, and helps build community. DMs are expected to ensure that it doesn't get in the way of moving the game forward.

k) DMs are expected to teach the players the basics of their system. Any unconventional rules should be explained ahead of time, or if adapted in game, remain consistent going forward.

About your host:

My name is Adam and I’m a teacher by day and RPG game organizer by night and weekends for people who want to play and learn about the hobby.

I learned how to play role playing games virtually as soon as I could roll dice and haven't looked back. A huge fantasy and science fiction fan, I've engaged in immersive storytelling for 20+ years, both with friends and in my classroom as a career teacher. All are welcome at my table to learn the basics of role playing games through Dungeons & Dragons. I also provide advice to my community of over 22,000 gamers through my instagram account. An experienced Game Master (narrator/facilitator), I will set the scene and present harrowing situations which your custom characters must overcome (or deftly sidestep) during the course of your fast paced and immersive adventure.

Our mission:

Heroic immersion: Regardless of the system or DM, we want you to feel as if you are walking the forests of Mirkwood, through the Hyborian desert, or traveling the hyperspace lanes between Corellia and Tatooine. We immerse players, new and experienced, in classic, heroic adventures, in the theme of Tolkien, Lovecraft, Howard, and many more...every single session.

Reliability: Not only do our games provide an excellent experience, they are reliable. We run at least 10 games per month, and our player attendance rate is above 90%. Additionally, we have a team of four DMs working together to ensure that we never cancel an event.

Player Driven: Our games are player driven, putting you and your character at the center of the plot. Your choices will decide the outcome: from heroic victory to an untimely end. We encourage adventure feedback and try to make each session even better than the last.

We look forward to having you at the table.

D&D Roleplaying Workshop: Improv Basics and Getting into Character

Online Event, microphone and webcam required.

Event Overview:

D&D is amazing, and the act of improv roleplaying can be very intimidating. That's normal, and we're here to help! There are a few basic skills every roleplayer can implement to set them on the path of being an improv super star (or at least knowing how to talk to a shopkeeper :-) We're going to help develop those during this session.

Hello, my name is Brian Gomiz and I am The Bearded Nerd. I am a World-builder and a World-Developer who likes to help gamers build their world so that they can spend more time playing in their world.

During this workshop, we're going to break down the act of roleplay within a D&D or TTRPG setting. We'll begin by defining what roleplay is and then go into detail about how to actually roleplay. This workshop will be highly interactive so be prepared to roll some dice and have fun!

Event Host:

Brian (internet personality "The Bearded Nerd") is a longtime DM, player, and lover of D&D. His specialty is helping players identify what they want in their game experience, and then working together to make it happen.

Tickets:

We compensate DMs and hosts for their time, which we've found improves he quality of participation for all involved. Accordingly, all DnD Club event listings require the purchase of a seat ticket which are non refundable. We host open tables and welcome all players to our games and workshops so long as space is available.
